LGBTI Democrats Wanted!

NJ Stonewall Democrats are Partnering with the NJ Democratic State Committee

Please reply by Thursday January 25, 2007

New Jersey Stonewall Democrats (NJSD) are partnering with the New Jersey Democratic State Committee (NJDSC) to increase the participation and visibility of LGBTI members in the Democratic Party throughout New Jersey. We are doing this as an affiliate of The National Stonewall Democrats (NSD) who are working with the Democratic National Committee (DNC) LGBT Caucus to help strengthen state parties and enable them to fulfill the requirements of the new rule for each state party to be more inclusive of our community in the selection of delegates and in all Party affairs.

To that end, NJSD is currently seeking LGBTI residents of New Jersey who are registered Democrats and have an interest in serving on the local Democratic Committee in their respective municipality as Democratic Committee members.

What is a "Municipal" Democratic Committee Member? In New Jersey each borough, city, or town is divided up into "election districts." In each of these districts there are a male and female municipal Democratic Committee Member elected in Democratic Primary elections biyearly by local Democratic voters in their respective district. Municipal Democratic Committee Members serve a term of 2 years and help decide who their party will endorse in local Democratic races. Once you are elected to a municipal committee seat, you automatically become a member of the County Committee.

The commitment of time is minimal, several meetings a year. Additionally, a member may be as active as he or she wants and commit as much time as they so desire to help in local, county or statewide Democratic candidates races. This is truly a great way to become active in your party and help raise the awareness of the needs and presence of LGBTI'ers throughout New Jersey.

Please note that many of these seats throughout New Jersey are currently filled and we are looking to help fill empty seats. Even if the committee seat in your district is not available, there are many ways you can become involved to help support the party and bring more LGBT visibility to the process. If you have interest please email your name, street address, city and telephone number to:

bob.bresenhan@njstonewalldemocrats.org

(Please note: your information will not be sold or traded to any other parties with the exception of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee and affiliates)

Once we receive your information and acknowledgment of interest, we will research to see if there is an opening in your local district and be back in touch about how you can get involved.

As time is of the essence, we need to hear back from anyone interested by Thursday, January 25, 2007.

In case you have any questions or need further clarification please call Bob Bresenhan at 908.327.2040.
